The Cowboy Trail is the longest rail-to-trail conversion in progress in the United States. Today, 136 miles of trail have been opened to the public for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The longest finished section is a 102 mile path running from Norfolk to Stuart. There is also a 16 mile segment running from Bassett to Ainsworth, and an 18 mile segment beginning in Valentine and crossing over the Niobrara River.
